How many of the employees at Company X have life insurance?
Statement (1) There are 300 employees at Company X.
This statement just gives us the total number of employee at company X. There is no information on the number of employees having life insurance. Hence this statement is not sufficient.
Statement (2) The ratio of employees with life insurance to employees without life insurance is 1 : 5.
This statement on gives the ratio of employees with life insurance to employees without life insurance. But there is no actual number of employees given. Hence this statement is not sufficient.
Combining both the statement we can find the number of employees at Company X having life insurance

Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT
2) The ratio of employees with life insurance to employees without life insurance is 1:5.
Fact 2 tells us that for every 6 employees, 1 of the 6 has life insurance. However, we don't know the total number of employees who actually have life insurance.
