Over the past year, did the number of male students in the school increase?

(1) Over the past year, the ratio of number of male students to the total number of students increased.
(2) Over the past year, the total number of students increased.

A

Answer is yes as the ratio can go up only if male students go up

Hi

Its possible that the number of male students stayed the same or even decreased slightly, but the number of female students dropped by a big number. That would also cause the ratio of male students : total students to go up.
