A rectangular piece of carpet of 200 square yards is cut into two pieces, and the smaller piece is sold. What is the perimeter of the remaining piece?
(1) The area of the remaining piece is 120 square yards.
(2) The following figure is a diagram of the remaining piece.

We dont know the length and width of given rectangular carpet of 200 square yards area. Its possible that this carpet is 20 yards by 10 yards OR 40 yards by 5 yards or something else.
Statement 1Area of remaining piece = 120 square yards. But we dont know which shape that remaining piece is in and with what dimensions.
Eg., if we take a case where remaining piece is a rectangle of 12 yards by 10 yards, then its perimeter will be = 2*(10+12) = 44 yards
But if the remaining piece is a rectangle of 15 yards by 8 yards, then its perimeter will be = 2*(15+8) = 46 yards
So this statement is
not sufficient to answer the question.
Statement 2I have tried to explain the statement 2 by means of a pic, which is attached here. Perimeter is the sum of all sides.
I have assumed the three non-measured horizontal lines to be 'x', 'y' and 'z' while I have assumed the three non-measured vertical lines to be 'a', 'b' and 'c'. (other sides are already measured/marked as 10 yards and 20 yards)
As we can see, x+y+z will add up to 20 yards only, and a+b+c will add up to 10 yards only: this is because all lines are perpendicular to each other.
So we have the perimeter as 10+20+10+20 = 60 yards.
Sufficient.
