For option A: equating the equation mean p+q=-1

Possible only when one is -ve and other one is +ve so pq<0

Option2: We dont know about q so cant say

Ans: a
if suppose p=0 q=-1

it will satisfy

but pq=0

clearly only b is insufficient so b,d rules out
now a, clearly given p,q are intergers then pq>0 cannot be possible to satisfy option a......so pq must be <0

Regarding statement 1:

Given that 2^p*2^q=0.5, wouldn't both p=-1, q=0, and p=-2, q=1 satisfy this statement?

I got answer E. Can anyone explain the reasoning? Thanks in advance :)

You are correct to say that the two pairs of values (p=-1 & q=0 AND p=-2 & q=1) satisfy statement 1.
However, we need to remind ourselves about the target question: Is pq > 0?

If p=-1 & q=0, then the answer to the target question is NO, pq is not greater than 0
Likewise, if p=-2 & q=1, then the answer to the target question is NO, pq is not greater than 0
Unless you can find a pair of values for p and q that yields a different answer to the target question, statement 1 is sufficient.

I second this doubt, how does it come to p+q = -1? How do we know what 0.5 is raised to?
