The closing price of Agile stock on Monday, Wednesday and Friday were M, W and F. Out of these three which one is the highest?

(1) The difference in the closing price of Monday and Wednesday was $65.

(2) The difference in the closing price of Monday and Friday was $30.

I don't care for the question (where is it from?) because it uses a "trap" the GMAT would never use. When a sentence discusses the "difference" in two quantities, there are two potential interpretations of that sentence. "The difference in the number of men and the number of women is 30" can mean "the number of men is 30 greater than the number of women", or it can mean "either there are 30 more men, or there are 30 more women". The term "positive difference" exists precisely to indicate when this second interpretation is the correct one. Since this question does not use the term "positive difference", people can legitimately make the first interpretation, and get an answer different from the OA. You won't ever see wording like this in a real GMAT question.

I'd take this question with a grain of salt. No GMAT question would trick you by making you think you're taking the difference of something.
