(1) says x = (speed) = (distance)/(time) = 150/(400/60) = 45/2
(2) says x = (speed) = (distance)/(time) = (x+45)/3. (x+45)/3=x gives x = 45/2.

Pre Analysis:
- \(Speed = x\) miles per hour
- \(Distance = 150\) miles
- Therefore, \(Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}=\frac{150}{x}\) hours
- We are asked the value of x i.e., speed
Statement 1: It takes the motorcyclist 400 minutes to cover the total distance of 150 miles
- According to this statement, time to cover 150 miles = 400 mins = 400/60 hours
- So, we can write \(\frac{150}{x}=\frac{400}{60}\)
- From which we can get the value of x easily
- Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient and we can eliminate options B, C and E
Statement 2: The motorcyclist covers (x+45) miles in 3 hours
- According to this statement, speed of motorcycle \(=\frac{x+45}{3}\)
- We can equate this to \(\frac{x+45}{3}=x\) and get the value of \(x\) easily
Hence the right answer is Option D
