On the number line above, t, u, v, w, and x are five consecutive even integers in increasing order. What is the average (arithmetic mean) of these five numbers?

(1) The average (arithmetic mean) of u and v is 121.

(2) u + w = 244

why is the assumption here that the consective numbers go up by two? why not by 1

Because we are given that t, u, v, w, and x are five consecutive even integers.

Sorry. What are we using to presume that the increasing order is starting from left or right?

A number line is a visual representation of numbers in a straight line, with positive numbers to the right of zero and negative numbers to the left of zero. Therefore, on the number line numbers get larger as we move from left to right.
