During an experiment, Emily collected 11 different temperature readings, all of which were integers. How many of the temperature readings were negative?

(1) The median temperature reading was -1.
6th reading is -1 hence 5 reading before that were negative. Total negative readings = 6

SUFFICIENT.

(2) Exactly five of the temperature readings were positive.
Other 6 readings can all be negative or one of them can be 0 so 5 negative readings.

INSUFFICIENT.

Answer A.

(1) The median temperature reading was -1. >For 11 elements, the 6th element is the median. As the 6th one is a negative integer, the previous 5 are also negative and the 7th one will be either 0 or positive integers (it is said all of them are different). Hence, sufficient.
(2) Exactly five of the temperature readings were positive > The other 7 may be all negative or 6 of them are negative and the remaining one is 0. so not sufficient.
A is the CA.

(1) sufic
median is the 6th = -1;
readings from 1st to 6th are negative;
reading from 7th to 11th could zero and positives, or all positives.

(2) insufic
5 positives, then 6 could be any combination of negatives with or without 0.

(Statement1): The median temperature reading was -1.
The next temperature reading after the median is greater or equal to zero.
—> exactly 6 tem.readings are negative
Sufficient

(Statement2) Exactly five of the temperature readings were positive.
—> one of the any other temperature readings could be zero.
Well, the rest 6 or 5 tem.readings could be negative
Insufficient

The answer is A.

Solution:
From statement (1), 1st… …… 2nd …..3rd ….4th …..5th …..6th ……7th ……8th …..9th …..10th …..11th
----------------------------------------------Median-------------------------------------------
……………………………………………………………...(-1)…………………………………………………………..
From this , There may be 5 negative readings or There may be 4 negative readings and another one is o(zero), Not Sufficient.
Statement (2) is same as statement (1). Not sufficient.
