Step 1: Analyse Question Stem
- • Set consists of even numbers
o Even number means even integer.
Step 2: Analyse Statements Independently (And eliminate options) – AD/BCE
Statement 1: \(y(y-1) =30\)
- • If y = 6, then \(y(y-1) = 6*5 = 30\)
- o Possible case
- o Not possible because -5 is not an even number.
- o We don’t know the value of x, we can’t find the median of the given set.
Statement 2: \((x-y)^3≤ 0\)
- • \(x ≤ y\)
- o We don’t know the value of x and y
- Thus, we cannot find the median of the set.
Step 3: Analyse Statements by combining.
From statement 1: y = 6
From statement 2: x ≤ y
By combining the two, we have
- • x ≤ 6
• If x > 2, then
- o Set = {2, x, 6, 18, 32}
- Median of the set = 6
- o Set = {x, 2, 6, 18, 32}
- Median of the set = 6
