Over the past 5 years, 95% of chemistry majors enrolled in a specific chemistry course have passed the final exam. During this same period only 70% of the other students enrolled in the chemistry course are able to pass the final. How many students passed the final exam in this chemistry course last semester?
So on one side there are chemistry majors enrolled in a specific chemistry course and on the other we have other students enrolled in the chemistry course. I'm not too sure if the chemistry course is the same between the 2 groups and which one this is talking about (because in the first one it uses the word specific and in the second one it doesn't say that it is the same, so it could have been a different one). But lets assume it is the same. The important thing to notice is the 5 year period.
Quote:
(1) There were 120 chemistry students enrolled in the course last semester.
Clearly not sufficient, so BCE
Quote:
(2) 64 chemistry majors passed the final exam last semester.
These are part of the first group, but for last semester only. And no information about the rest of the class. So insufficient. C or E
(1) & (2)
If the introduction was just about the last semester it would be great, but it isn't, it is about the past 5 years, so insufficient. E
