Pre-Analysis:
- We are asked if an integer k is divisible by 5 or not
- This is a yes-no question
Statement 1: 24k is divisible by 20
- Accoridng to this statement \(24k=20p\) where p is a positive integer
- Which means we can say \(p=\frac{24k}{20}=\frac{2^3\times 3\times k}{2^2\times 5}=\frac{2\times 3\times k}{5}\)
- Now \(p=\frac{2\times 3\times k}{5}\) is a positive integer only and only if k is divisible by 5
- Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient and we can eliminate options B, C and E
Statement 2: k + 1 is divisible by 6
- Let's take two cases:
- Case 1: \(k+1=6\) (divisible by 6), then \(k=5\) is divisible by 5
- Case 2: \(k=12\) (divisible by 6), then \(k=11\) is not divisible by 5
- Thus, statement 2 alone is not sufficient
Hence the right answer is Option A
