Statements 1 and 2 are individually not sufficient. This is because Statement 1 talks about the ratio of the average weight of boys and ratio of the average weight of girls. But doesn't tell us the number of students or any additional details. Similarly, statement 2 provides the number of students in the class, but doesn't provide additional information.
Combined
When we combine the statements, we are still dealing with the ratio of the average weights, hence we don't have anything meaningful to get the average weight of the entire class.
To see this lets assume the average weight of all the boys = b and the average weight of all the girls = g
\(\frac{b}{g }= \frac{3}{2}\) --------- (1)
Number of boys = 40
Number of girls = 30
Total weight of boys = 40b
Total Weight of girls = 60g
Average weight = \(\frac{40b + 60g }{ 100}\)
Even if we replace one variable from the ratio above, we will still have one variable in the equation. Hence the combination doesn't help.
Option E
