Profit ratio is defined as the ratio of the profit in dollars to the investment in dollars. Was Bill’s profit ratio greater than Jack’s profit ratio?

(1) Bill invested $4,000 and his profit was $1,500.
(2) Jack’s profit was 12 cents per dollar that he invested.

1 - Bill invested $4,000 and his profit was $1,500. - Insufficient - We don't know anything about the Jack's profit ratio
2-  Jack’s profit was 12 cents per dollar that he invested. - Insufficient - We don't know anything about the Bill's profit ratio

We get both the values for comparison and yes to our question  (Was Bill’s profit ratio greater than Jack’s profit ratio?)

Profit Ratio Bill = 4000/1500 = 37.5 cents per dollar > Profit Ratio Jack = 12 cents per dollar.

Hence Sufficient.

Let Bill's profit = Bp and his investment = Bi. That means his profit ratio =  \frac{Bp}{Bi}

Let Jack's profit = Jp and his investment = Ji. That means his profit ratio =  \frac{Jp}{Ji}

(1) Bill invested $4,000 and his profit was $1,500.

Bill's profit ratio =  \frac{1500}{4000}

\frac{15}{40}

\frac{3}{8}

However, this statement provides no info regarding Jack's profit ratio.

INSUFFICIENT

(2) Jack’s profit was 12 cents per dollar that he invested.

Jack's profit ratio =  \frac{\frac{12}{100}}{1}

\frac{3}{25}

However, this statement provides no info regarding Bill's profit ratio.

INSUFFICIENT

Putting the two statements together gives us that Bill's profit ratio is  \frac{3}{8} ​​​​​​​ and that Jack's profit ratio is  \frac{3}{25} . As the two profit ratios have the same numerator and Bill's profit ratio has the smaller denominator, Bill's profit ratio is indeed greater.

B) 0.12/1 gives us J's ratio

As we cant compare individually we cross out a, b, d
 and combining both statements we can compare the ratios
we actually don't neeeeedd to do the maths
