Went with E without any pen-paper analysis.
Reason being, sentence (1) and (2) are worded in such a way that the constant rate mentioned in them could be any other constant rate and not necessarily the one in the question. I was looking for something like "at the SAME constant rate" but it isn't explicitly mentioned. So, no point in any analysis.
