During a five day charity drive, the least amount of money raised in a single day was $500. Was the average (arithmetic mean) amount of money raised per day for the five days greater than $600?
(1) For the 3 days in which the most money was raised, the average (arithmetic mean) amount of money raised per day was $700.
(2) For the 2 days in which the least amount of money was raised, the average (arithmetic mean amount of money raised per day was $550.
What is the real Q? -> If the money raised per 5 days is greater than 600 = (?) ->> This is equivalent to ask "is the amount of money raised for the five days greater than 3000$?
1) If the money raised for 3 days is 700 on average = 2100$ total. We have 2 more days with at least 500 = 500*2
This means that at least the charity drive gets 2100 + 1000 = 3100 which is more than 3000 -> 1) IS SUFFICIENT
2) If for 2 days we got at least 550 on average, it means that for the 5 days we get at least 550 also, so 550*5=2750 which is less than 3000, but it could be also more if for the 3 other days they get 800 per day for example, so 2) is INSUFFICIENT
FINAL ANSWER: A)
