An airplane has a passenger cabin with seats arranged in rows of 6 with an aisle in the middle. How many seats are there in the passenger cabin?

(1) 92% of the seats in the passenger cabin are occupied 
 (2) There are fewer than 20 unoccupied seats

Obviously individual statements are insufficient Combining: 8% of the total seats < 20 => Total seats < 2000/8 i.e. 250 Also, total seats is a multiple of 6 (seats arranged in rows of 6) Multiple of 6 and less than 250 are 246, 240, 234, etc. However, we also need to ensure that 8% of the total seats is an integer => The number is a multiple of 25. Thus, a number less than 250 and a multiple of 25 and 6 is 150 Sufficient.

1. occupied=0.92S ,so unoccupied =1-0.92S=0.08S....... 
still dont know value of S ,nt suff
2. unoccupied<20.....not sufficient

and 0.092s and 0.08s will be whole nos...... since unit digits are 2 & 8 resp, need to find a no. for S that is less than 250, a multiple of 6 and has 5 or 0 as its unit digit

It's tricky to come up with something like a multiplier of 25 from 0.92x or 0.08x.

Seats filled = (92/100)*6x = (23/25)*6x, clearly x should be multiple of 25 for seats filled to be an integer. x = 25, seats equals 150, and if x=50, seats will be 300 and 8% would be 24 (>20), so only 150 is possible.

Occupied seats = 95/100 = 23/25 
Unoccupied seats = 2/25
From above, we can determine total seats are a multiple of 25. 
Total Seats = 6 X 25 X S (as they are multiple of both 25 and 6) 
= 150S

Unoccupied seats = 150S X 2/25 = 12S
Unoccupied seats can be = 12, 24, 36,....

Combining Statement 2 we can say that, 
There is only one number, 12, which less than 20.
