Machine J runs at a constant rate and produces a lot consisting of 300 bottles in 4 hours. How much less time would it take to produce the lot of bottles if both machines J and P were run simultaneously?
(1) Machine J can only produce a maximum of 10 lots per day.
(2) Machine J produces twice the number of bottles per hour as machine P.

How much less time machines J and P take to produce 300 bottles together compared to J alone.
J produces 300 bottles in 4 hours (rate: \(\frac{300}{4} = 75\) bottles/hour). Need time for J+P together.
Statement 2 gives P’s rate relative to J, allowing J+P time calculation. S1 adds no relevant info for P.

Interestingly note, if J produces 1 lot in 4hrs, then in a day max 24/4 = 6 lots can be produced logically but this is not a concern.

Machine J produces twice the number of bottles per hour as machine P.
This means in 4ours P can produce only 150 bottles
Together they produced 300+150 bottles in 4hrs = 450
Time to produce 300 bottles together = 4*300/450 = 8/3 hrs
Diff in time = 4-8/3
