We want: Number of students taking graduate courses.
Total students = 250.

Statement (1):
200 students are taking undergraduate courses.
That means the rest (250 – 200 = 50) are either taking only graduate OR graduate + undergrad.
But we don’t know how many are taking both.
So we cannot find exact graduate number.
👉 Not sufficient.

Statement (2):
50 students are taking both undergrad and grad.
Good to know, but we don’t know how many are in undergrad or total distribution.
👉 Not sufficient.

Combine (1) + (2):

Let’s consider a two set Venn diagram
let the common part be denoted as x.
set 2 denotes undergraduate only = (a-x)
set 1 denotes the graduate part only = (b-x).
given that : (a-x)+ x + (b-x) = 250
a + b - x = 250 ————- equation 1.
we need to find b?
statement 1:
(1) 200 students are taking undergraduate courses.
from the statement ; (a-x)+ x = 200. That’s a = 200. Hence, insufficient
statement 2:
(2) 50 students are taking both undergraduate and graduate courses.
x = 50 , we don’t know the values of a. Hence insufficient.
Combining both statements, we get
a + b - x = 250
200 + b -50 = 250
b = 100
