Analyzing Statement (1)
Let:
a= number of apples
o= number of oranges
p= number of pears
Given:
a+o+p=18
a=3o
o=2p
Substitute
o=2p and a=3o=3×2p=6p:
So, a+o+p=6p+2p+p=9p=18⟹p=2
Thus, o=2p=4
a=6p=12
So, statement (1) alone is sufficient to determine the number of apples: 12.
Analyzing Statement (2)
Given:
o=4
a+o+p=18⟹a+p=14
Without additional information about the relationships between apples and pears, there are multiple possibilities for a and p
