Less than 2/5 of those who passed were interns. In other words,
less than 40% of the passing group were interns, so more than 60% of the passing group were full-time employees.
Less than 3/5 of those who failed were full-time employees. In other words, less than 60% of the failing group were full-time employees, so
more than 40% of the failing group were interns.
So interns were a smaller percentage of the passing group and a larger percentage of the failing group.
If interns and full-time employees had the same passing percentage, the intern-to-employee mix would be the same among passers and failures. But it is not: interns show up less among passers and more among failures. Therefore, interns had a lower passing percentage than full-time employees.
The overall passing percentage is between the interns’ passing percentage and the full-time employees’ passing percentage. So the interns’ passing percentage is lower than the overall passing percentage.
The answer is NO.
