This one you can answer really really fast!
Remember: you don't need to actually solve the question, you just need to determine what piece(s) of information are needed.

Here what we are asked is the percent change of applicants from September (s) to January (j):

x = (s-j)/s * 100

We are given s=60, so we just need j

(1) j = 1/3 * s = 20
(2) j = 20

Both (1) and (2) give us enough information on their own to be able to solve the problem!
    A: Statement (1) alone is sufficient.
  • B: Statement (2) alone is sufficient.
  • C: Both statements together are sufficient, but neither alone is.
  • D: Each statement alone is sufficient.
  • E: Neither statement is sufficient, even together.
