Thanks Bunuel... I think you are right to say that these questions are probably not within the scope of GMAT.

What is the source of these questions? Any explanations given?

I am currently working on DS problems using:
https://www.amazon.com/GMAT-Data-Sufficiency-Prep-Course/dp/1889057541/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271810410&sr=1-1

The explanations are a bit difficult to understand, but I scanned the appropriate pages for your review.

Thanks again!

I'd recommend not to study by this book. Both solutions are incorrect.

For instance: second problem, statement (1).

They say: \(m=kn\) --> \(\frac{5m+2n}{3m+n}=\frac{5k+2}{3k+1}\).
...
But sometimes it's divisible. Suppose \(k=2\) then \(\frac{5k+2}{3k+1}=\frac{12}{4}=3\), which is an integer.

How did they calculated this??? For \(k=2\) --> \(\frac{5m+2n}{3m+n}=\frac{5k+2}{3k+1}=\frac{12}{7}\). Not an integer.

Bad source. Don't study.

Yeah... that bit was really throwing me off as well.

Those are definitely not the only errors I have seen. Thanks!
