Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Boys and girls should attend separate schools. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Education is an important part of everyone's lives. The most basic form of education is imparted in schools from an early age of a child. It is in schools that children receive knowledge and core values are imparted to them. While some parents prefer sending their children to separate schools for boys and girls, others would disagree. In my view, children, irrespective of their gender, should be sent to a common school for education for two important reasons.
The main reason is that a common school prepares children for the real world. Schools are a means to prepare students to face the world which has both males and females as its active members. If students become convenient with opposite genders early from their school days, they would not face any behavioral troubles later in life. For example, in my previous company where I was working, I was in a project which had more males than females. One of my teammates, Rose, was very shy and she had a lot of difficulties in completing her work. She never used to interact with the male counterparts and used to get very nervous in their company. Since the project required all the members to work as team by interacting and taking help from each other, Rose would always be very hesitant and always used to miss deadlines. As a team lead, when I tried to understand the reasons for her poor performance, I got to know that she had studied in an all-girls school and university all her life. This was causing her a great difficulty to gel with the male members. This posed a huge problem for her and she lagged behind in completing her work. As you can see, if Rose would have been trained from her early years to be comfortable with boys by being in a common school, she would not have faced such difficulties in her job and other similar areas.
Another reason is that it helps one to understand the behavior of opposite gender. Since we live in a mixed society, we need to learn to respect every other individual irrespective of their gender which is the responsibility of the schools to teach them. For instance, I remember when my brother was young, he used to bully me and hit me as he assumed that girls are the weaker of both the genders. This thinking partly developed from the fact that he was in an-all boys school where he learned that showing dominance is the real mark of a man. But when my parents moved him to a co-educational school, his behavior towards me changed in a few months. I was really surprised at it as he never beat me up later and used to have good conversations with me. When I discussed this thing with my mother, she explained me that this change was because of the new school. There used to be many group activities among boys and girls and children were taught the importance of valuing both the genders in that school. This clearly demonstrated that studying in a coeducational school is far more advantageous as it helps children to learn values of equality at an early age.
In sum, while some people would prefer all boys or all girls school for their children, I believe that a common school for boys and girls provides a great platform to not only prepare children to face the real world later in their lives but also helps them respect both the genders. We should understand the importance of sending children to a common school and should encourage others for such actions. This will help children the most in the later stages of their lives.
