Some high schools require all students to wear school uniforms. Other high schools permit students to decide what to wear to school. Which of these two school policies do you think is better? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion
At the present time, the topic concerning the existence of uniforms in schools, leads to many debates. While some schools allow scholars to wear own outfits, other schools imposed uniforms. As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter, due to the fact that it promotes equality and eliminates bullying behaviors. I will explain my statement in detail, in the following essay.
First and foremost, the present society promotes patterns that influence people's attitude towards others. It is said that "Clothes make the man ", pointing directly the differences between social classes. There are many economic discrepancies between social classes, affecting families and consequently their off-springs. In other words, many children can not afford to buy fashionable outfits, and as a result they might end by being marginalized. Furthermore, the sense of not being cool, might make them feel inferior and worthless, leading to the development of a low self-esteem. Therefore, this affects outright their mental health and harmonious development. For instance, back in high school there were some students whose families could not buy them more than two or three pieces of cloth. Even though nobody was making fun of them, they were more introverted, less communicative, their self-trust was missing. So, uniforms are a practical and excellent solution for promoting the equality among students.
Second, a new trend, bullying, that my generation did not deal with, has started to gain more ground, during the last years. Unfortunately mass media, television, films, reality shows promote mean models and comportment that are copied by pupils. It seems that people are less likely to accept those who are poor, less trendy, associating them with being inferior, stupid, unworthy. For instance, a fourteen years girls told me her experience at school regarding this matter. She did not have many clothes and her colleagues were bullying her about this issue. They were aggressive both verbally and physically, making her feel as a worthless person and falling into depression. I was literally shocked to hear such a story, because this kind of abuses did not happen when I was in high school. And there was only a ten year gap between us. Thus, forcing students to accept uniforms, would be helpful and supportive for avoiding these incidents to occur.
To summarize, uniform is a must for school nowadays. This is because it would teach children about equality, dignity and because uniforms might represent the salvation for a great amount of scholars who are in danger to be bullied.
