Hello,
Sajjad1994Can you please grade and review my essay on an urgent basis. I would be eternally grateful. Thank you.
QUESTION:
The following appeared in an article in a health–and–fitness magazine:
“Laboratory studies show that Saluda Natural Spring Water contains several of the minerals necessary for good health and that it is completely free of bacteria. Residents of Saluda, the small town where the water is bottled, are hospitalized less frequently than the national average. Even though Saluda Natural Spring Water may seem expensive, drinking it instead of tap water is a wise investment in good health.”
MY ESSAY:
The argument concludes that investment in Saluda Natural Spring Water is a wise decision for good health of the people. The author reasons that since the residents of Saluda are hospitalised less often than the population of the rest of the country, it must be beneficial. Also, the argument bases its conclusion on the results of laboratory studies claiming the health benefits of this water over tap water. While this argument makes good points, it has several questionable assumptions and reasonings that make the conclusion severely flawed.
Firstly, the entire argument is based on the Laboratory study's findings. However, there is no credibility provided to the source. The researchers can be biased towards the company. For instance, they can be studies conducted by the company itself. Until the methodology and credibility of the studies are verified, it cannot be concluded with certainty that the water does contain the necessary minerals for good health.
In addition to that, the argument makes a weak assumption that the reason that residents of saluda are not being hospitalised as often as the people of the rest of the country is because of the bottled spring water. It is possible that the residents are healthy due to many other factors such as clean environment, fit lifestyle, genetics, healthy good etc. This claim that the spring water is solely responsible for this phenomenon is a stretch.
Lastly, the conclusion that bottled water is better than tap water makes a strong assumption that tap water does not have any health benefits. The author does not provide with any studies or facts about the composition of tap water. Tap water can have good minerals and other beneficial components which would make the expensive investment in spring water bottles futile.
The argument stated at the moment is deeply flawed to make any logically sound inferences and conclusion.
The author can provide more information to thoroughly evaluate the benefits of Saluda Natural Spring Water.Firstly, more transparent research about the benefits of bottled water and tap water would help make a better inference about the same. Secondly, thorough study of the residents of Saluda and their lifestyles should be conducted to determine the impact of the bottled water on their health. Moreover, the author should also state how small is the sample of study compared to the rest of population and how representative is the sample. it the sample of study is too small like 100 people out of 5 million people, the study is non conclusive. Additional information about these facts would enable the investors make a good decision on how to allocate their resources for the betterment of people's health and strengthen their argument.
