The part of a campaign to sell advertising time on a local radio station to local businesses mentioned a case of one gastronomy business - The Cumquat Cafe, that noted a 10 percent increase over last year’s totals. The author of the argument asserts the success as a part of radio advertising that the Cumquat Cafe has recently implemented.Nevertheless, the conclusion of the argument relies on assumptions for which there is no clear evidence. Hence, the argument is unconvincing and has several flaws that will be portrayed in the following essay.
Firstly, the author claims that the 10 percent increase over last year’s totals of the Cumquat Cafe was the effect of advertising through its local radio station. Unfortunately, this statement is a stretch as he or she did not mention any
evidence to support. For instance, there is no clear evidence that the Cumguat Cafe uses any other type of advertisement. Apart from radio advertising they could use TV advertising or even banner advertisement as well. What is more, over that time the cafe place could also implement some special offer for its customers that would contribute to income increase. Thus, the argument reveals examples of leap of faith that are neither sound nor persuasive.
Secondly, the argument does not provide the readers with any sufficient data to settle if the 10 percent increase is only the effect of radio advertising on a local radio station. For example, there is not enough evidence that the increase is induced only because of radio listeners. How many new customers heard about the Cumquat Cafe directly from the local radio? Furthermore, how many of them were actually encouraged to visit the cafe place due to the radio advertisement? Without that information, we cannot clearly state that the radio advertisement had an impact on increased total income. As a result, this is again a very dubious and unsupported assertion.
Last but not least, the author of the campaign encourages other businesses to advertise through local radio by the example of the Cumquat Cafe. Nevertheless, the cafe is a part of the gastronomy industry. What about other distinct industries? It cannot be claimed from the perspective of one specific example that the radio advertising will be also successful for the accommodation industry or energetic industry.
In conclusion the author makes several unjustified assumptions and fails to prove evidence to support them. Moreover there are certain flaws in logical reasoning. As a result, the argument is poorly sustained and thus, unconvincing.
Thank you in advance
