My impressions are:
*Good structure
* On the first essay, your arguments can apply to any survey (bad selection of sample, poorly designed survey, wrong sample). You could diversify the paragraphs a bit, maybe have one paragraph that discusses what are "management issues"
* On the second essay, good job on digging at a number of the assumptions related to the quality of the laid off employees. This would be a great essay to use a current example from the automotive industry, however you also have an opportunity to attack a need for "any" additional employees. Is Alpha's action a result of lost market share, or a shrinking market?
