What is a good score on Essays

Hi All,

I am sure this question would have been asked earlier. But I am new on this forum and so if you guys can respond it will be great.

I would like to know what is considered a good score in Essays? Does the score matter if it is more than 4.0 or 5.0 and your Verbal and Quant Scores are good.?

No, it does not matter too much but if you get 4.0 on AWA and stellar essays for the applications, it will raise a flag. I'd say 5.0 is a good solid score. 4.5 is probably acceptable for an international applicant, but take a look at the chineseburnt's thread how to master AWA and you should not have any issues.

I got AWA 4.5(38 percentile) in my first gmat attempt. I think that it's not that good. We must have >=5 in AWA to make some good impression on adcom members. What say?

The AWA is more important for those whose first language isn't English. As bb stated, admissions will notice any discrepancy between the AWA score and application essays. Adcoms are brutally efficient at catching such things, so aim for a 5.0 on this section.

But don't stress yourself out about it. If you earn a 4.0 or 4.5, you could reassure admissions with a solid verbal score.
