Currently I'm debating between moving to NC for my masters of accounting or trying my chances in CA. I really like the network UNC provides and I like the area but I was wondering what are my chances of working in CA straight out of UNC? Some statistics/charts (if available) would be very helpful.
Do a linkedin advanced search and type in "Kenan-Flagler" under school, select "accounting" as the industry and then do a search. You'll see a list of cities on the left side. Charlotte, Raleigh, Washington DC, Atlanta, and NYC were by far the most common, but when I did it using my network, there were still people in Cali and when I did my interview, the interviewer said that people from last year were interested in San Fran, Denver, etc. and got placed. My guess is that Big 4 is a bit tough because USC is the main feeder for Cali, but UNC is a top notch school so I bet that if you did well and networked, you'd have a decent shot. Good luck with your decision. I hear back from UNC on Friday and it's my top choice. I too want to work on the west and I'm confident that with the cache the school has, I can eventually get there if I network hard and interview well.
