Anybody have a success story with a UGPA under 3.0? I have a 2.8, but a 690 GMAT, so I'm trying to stay optimistic.

gpa-2.8 from UT-Austin (economics and philosophy)
gmat-700
3 yrs work exp (us senate)
applied in early december to:
UT-Austin: denied
USC: accepted w/ $$$
Vanderbilt: denied
Wake Forest: accepted w/ SSS
UNC-CH: still waiting..... haven't been invited to interview so probably a no

Hi Marcopolo! I have a 2.9 GPA and a 700 GMAT (not a great split either, much higher on verbal than quant). As you can see from my profile on the left, I have been waitlisted at Wharton and Kellogg and accepted at Columbia and Duke. I'm still waiting to hear from Stern. There is definitely hope, I think that strong work experience really helps. In addition, I think it is important to have clear career goals and be able to explain to the adcom how your previous work experience ties into those goals and how their program will help you achieve your goals.
Good luck, having a low GPA is definitely not a dealbreaker!
