Hi guys, been wondering what I should.
Currently I am an engineering (electrical & electronic) graduate with 2:2 in UK - My final year transcript reads like a disaster piece.
My long-term aim has always been to transition into management consulting at a technology company, but before that I need to do an MBA - issue is, with my technical degree getting the 'right' kind of experience is a lot harder than most people would assume. I am thinking of pursuing an MSc from an average university (with a good employment record). I realise with my 2:2 I will have to compensate extremely with my masters to stand a chance of doing an MBA at a good uni.
I guess my questions are:
1) Will an MSc help increase my employability in the consulting industry?
2) How big of a draw-back will my 2:2 be? Will it be an issue even after graduating MSc and looking for a job? Even when applying for MBA? Even after completing my MBA? I'd like to know with some certainty if I should bother doing an MSc (it's a big time/financial investment after all)?
3) Is going the MSc -> MBA path frowned upon in the job market (specifically consulting)? (MBA -> MSc seems like the norm)
4) How big of a difference does it make where I graduate with a masters from? Currently I'm looking at Aston University in UK.
5) If given the chance to pursue an MSc in engineering should I opt for that or stick with business & management/strategy & international business?
I'm under no impression that the road ahead will be as easy if I had gotten a 1st in undergrad, but I can't give up at my first obstacle can I.
