Hello everyone
I am from india , I am in my last year of graduation (B.tech) from top college( with specialization in mathematics). I also have a job lined up (as data analyst) in an international firm. I was thinking of applying for MS in finance and I have compiled the following list
Princeton
MIT
LSE
Oxford said
UT austin
Berkeley Haas
CMU tepper
I would like to work in banking or corporate finance after MS. So I wanted to know whether I would have a chance at these programs without any finance work exp (although I would have few month full time work exp as data analyst). I will give gmat in a few months and I am likely to get a 700+. I also have an aggregate of 80% in my undergrad (which is considered very good).
Also please tell me the value of these programs in Asia i.e, whether these program will be able to get me a good job in Asia(in IB).
Thanks
Hey Mohit,
Let me start off by saying that i am no expert and I will be writing whatever i know here.
Firstly, some US schools value work experience in the relevant field very highly unlike European business schools such as IE, ESADE. However, you are not at a 'great' disadvantage without much work experience. You can prove them that you are very much capable by nailing the GMAT and also a solid CGPA.
Coming to the second part of the question, I do not know much about the degree's scope in China and other Asian countries, but i can definitely say that the degree's value and scope is limited in India. One of the reasons being, too may restrictions on hedge fund trading and alike. And also in terms of banking( Investment banking, I presume), the branches of top banking companies in India will not be having any interesting work and will just be co-ordinating with the headquarters.
I recommend you do some research and find out yourself as I am a bit skeptical about the research myself.
All the best.
Regards,
Tejas
