HI i am mech engg. with 1.5 year work ex. GRE 1380 toefl 270, very good acads. I want to go for MBA after MS. Should i go for MS in finanace. what will be the pluses and minuses?All the help is highly appreciated!

The main pluses:

1) You do not need work experience to enter most MS Finance programs

2) You get to study your field far more intensively than you would in a general MBA program

The minuses

1) You spend more time and money on schooling (but this can be moderated by attending an accelerated MBA program)

2) There is a risk of degree preclusion (but this can be moderated as well)

3) You might have to repeat some coursework in the MBA program (again, with careful selection of your portfolio you can minimize this risk)

Degree preclusion just means receiving a graduate degree that is so similar to an MBA that other business schools are unwilling to admit you because they do not want to grant you a second "MBA." Note that some business schools are willing to grant second MBAs but you usually have to justify why you need a second one.

Do you prefer an MS Finance granted by a business school?

thanks once again. I want to go for MBA in future for sure. As of now i will prefer MS finance or similar couses instead of going for MS in mech engg. can u tell me whether these course are too mathematical. Also what is usual duration for such course. ya what about good colleges?
