Hello everyone,
Please evaluate my profile. I would like to apply for UT Austin - MPA program
I was a transfer student
A.A. Business Administration from Fullerton College
GPA: 4.0/4.0 Dean List, Honor Awards + multiple scholarships
B.A. Business Economics from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
Major GPA: 3.43 (overall all quantitative coursework like econometrics, micro/macro econ, investment,.. I got A-)
Upper division GPA: 3.63
Cumulative GPA: 3.61
One of the hardest majors at UCLA require minimum overall GPA of 3.3 and certain class add up to 3.5
I got D+ for my taxation class but retook with an A.
Related Campus Activities: Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA)
Since I got into UCLA, I interned and studied at the same time. I got into Northwestern Mutual's rotational internship program. Worked as Investment Operations/Finance/Operations intern and got full time offer as Operations Associate (Insurance, Budgeting and Cost Report for the company) Total years of experiences 2.5 by Oct 2016.
GMAT: 720
Got great LORs from my COO & Director of Operations - they know me very well! (personally & professionally)
My essay elaborates on my desire to focus on accounting discipline, my interest in advisory and taxation. Also mentioned my plan for the PhD program in Accounting - Taxation research.
Although my friends told me I'm overworrying but I don't know whether my low major GPA will reduce my chance to get into UT Austin. I know that schools don't look at GPA only, and I balanced between my school work, managed to get an internship & job as an international student. However, I would like to hear from your advises. I won't apply for UT Austin alone. If there are any recommendations, I truly appreciate!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you guys!
