I know Gmatclub is mainly for MBA, but i need seriously help on getting into a good MSA program. I would really appreciate it if someone can provide me with some advises. I graduated from a very good accounting university with a degree in Economics(not accounting). I have a very low gpa 2.8/4.0 with an even lower economics GPA (major GPA). During my freshmen to junior year, i have changed my major 4 times. From engineering to biology to chemistry and to Economics. By the time i realized i wanted to do accounting it was already too late, because i was already in my junior year and my GPA was too low to transfer into my university's undergraduate business school for accounting. Thus, I changed my major to Economics, thinking it was somewhat related to accounting (worst mistake ever). I am currently studying the GMAT, but i don't know whats my target score since my circumstance is very different from a typical applicant's circumstance. I have no accounting internship experiences, but i'm planning to get one (volunteer or internship from a local cpa firm) after i am done with the GMAT.

Hello Eastwood

I have very similar experience like yours in terms of the BA degree but I think as long as you have background in economics then your transition to accounting should be very smooth.

As for the GPA, if you score high in the GMAT, then that would be great advantage.

I definitely understand your struggle. I had a similar GPA and had a late change of heart on what I wanted to do for my career. I was still able to get into a top 10 school with a little luck and good experiences during my year after undergraduate. Your GMAT score probably needs to be at the very least 700, but what schools are you looking to apply to specifically?

Getting work in accounting would be good, but just make sure that you are able to gain some sort of professional experience if the accounting internship/volunteering falls through for some reason. If you have the time/resources, take or retake some intro accounting courses at a local school (community colleges work too) and just absolutely crush it. I had a low grade in one early accounting course that I neglected in favor of other courses so I retook it to show that I was capable of doing well in it.
