Hi guys,
I'm in a tricky situation. I've been admitted to my 2 top programs:
- MSc in Management of Information Systems & Digital Innovation at LSE
- MSc in Business Information Management (Data Science track) at RSM
I'm very excited and grateful for both options, but here comes my problem. I am aware that RSM is a really good school, especially in the Netherlands, but LSE's prestige and brand are at another level.
However, RSM's tuition fee stands at 2100€ while LSE's tuition fee is ... 29,7k£ (or more than 15x more).
I have already guaranteed funding for RSM, which would leave me debt-free by graduation. However, I couldn't be able to attend LSE without ending with more than 30K£ of debt.
I receive student finance from my home country, Switzerland, and it covers both my living costs and tuition fees in the NL (around 11k£/year). However, this is not enough for LSE. I was not awarded any support from the school, and cannot apply to UK postgraduate loans as a non-EU citizen. Furthermore, my family is unable to help me as my mom is unemployed in Switzerland and my dad earns very little in Colombia (around 200£ per month). I'm therefore also in a tricky situation when applying to private loans because of the lack of a guarantor. Lastly, because of COVID-19, I can't safely rely on a part-time job since we don't know how this is gonna affect the economy.
I'm therefore financially stuck in this situation, and I'm left wondering whether the MSc from LSE is worth all this struggle. Deferring the offer for next year is also not an option for me for personal reasons.
Do you guys have any views on this? Is LSE THAT much better? Is it worth it? Is LSE worth the debt when compared to debt-free RSM?
I see myself working in a big technology company such as Google, Linkedin, or Spotify (in the UK, or else in Europe) or as a technology consultant. I have been living in the Netherlands for a few years, where I did my BSc, and am currently also learning Dutch (level A2).
Looking forward to hearing from you
