Hi, in all likelihood I will be applying to programs that start Fall 2011. I'm from Chicago so I would like to work in Chicago, but I am very open to relocating to another major city such as New York under the right circumstances and with appropriate compensation.

I should also mention that I am currently considering taking some economics and accounting classes at my local community college once I graduate with my BA.
Is this a good idea or just a waste of time and money? One of my local community colleges actually offers a "accounting certificate", is this something worth perusing? Additionally, I am also considering getting a AA in business administration, would this be worth it?

I wouldn't waste your money on additional coursework in accounting, unless 1) a school you're applying to requires it, or 2) you're not 100% sure that you even want to do accounting. Otherwise, it's really unnecessary, from a CPA standpoint.

I haven't looked at the Urbana Champaign program much because the dates didn't work for me, but since your schedule seems more flexible and you want to end up in Chicago, I'd give it a look.

A lot of accounting programs usually have at least some prerequisites, so I was thinking about taking microeconomics, macroeconomics, some accounting courses, and maybe business calculus. The accounting program at U of Illinois is a top notch program and is very competitive and difficult to get into.

Does any one else have any advice, suggestions, or thoughts? Any and all comments will be appreciated!
