Hi GMATters,
I am facing a weird problem.
I have the GMAT last year - August 2012, and got a 620 (Q 42,V33)
Felt utterly demotivated and crushed, so crushed that I stopped preparing for the
CAT (the Indian version of the GMAT for admission to the 2 year MBA in the prestigious IIMS.)
I decided to give the test nevertheless and wrote it during October, and ended up getting a 98 Percentile in the CAT (Q93, 97.76 in Verbal ).
I always ace the Verbal part in CAT, its the Quant that was worrying me, and I answered most questions.
I am very bad in Data Interpretation and did not answer even a single DI question, which probably explains why I could not get a higher percentile in Quant.
My problem - I am actually pretty good in Quant - as in I know the basics. Verbal - I am even better.
Just don't know why I could not get a higher score in GMAT.
I tried thinking through my problem - and all I can come up with is how I approached the GMAT on the D-Day.
I tried to get as many questions right as possible and so ended up with no time on the clock and had to rush towards the last 5-10 minutes.
I remember - in Quant and Verbal - i started randomly marking the GMAT questions towards the end, when there were 5 minutes remaining on the clock.
I might have answered around 15 - 20 questions (in Q and also V) in this manner, maybe this could be a slightly lower number.
When writing the CAT - I thought about my GMAT experience and decided that every x minutes I should have answered y questions (in CAT Quant), and stuck to that strategy.
I don't remember the x and y values now though. CAT verbal comes to me naturally - I did not set any time limit - because I knew that I would be able to finish with time on the clock -
Indeed - there were 3 minutes left and 3 questions unanswered, I did not touch those questions as the options were very close.
Guess I implemented a GMAT strategy successfully in the CAT. Now I want to better my GMAT score.
I am using Powerscore for CR, Manhattan for SC. Any pointers - in terms of preparation strategy, or books or test taking tips would be very helpful.
I am targeting a GMAT score of 750 (as the IIMs require a high GMAT score

)
Thanks in advance
A desperate HariKrish
