If you are applying to the bigger name business schools, scores in the 600 range would be optimal. 590 puts you at a slight disadvantage. Evaluate your own background. If you don't have anything particularly outstanding, I'd try to retake the GMAT and boost your score into the 600 range. There should be a good amount of room for you to improve. Certainly there is the risk that verbal may fall -- but just solidify some of your verbal concepts and practice quant under timed conditions. These strategies should help you improve into more stable territory. If you are looking for some hand-drawn quant explanations - take a look at some of the gmatpill sample videos.

In my experience with students, they usually tend to do better on the real test than on the MGMAT practice tests. Therefore in your case I would take a guess and think test taking conditions/nerves etc played a strong factor in your actual results. That being said, the GMAT is always changing and even the top companies can't 100% simulate the actual test.

For improving actual test day abilities I would mix up your studying strategy a little. Have you tried video recording a test and verbalizing everything you do? At first this is quite tough so try maybe 10 questions at a time. Students have found it very effective in that they can then objectively seewhere there thinking is slightly confused or slow.

a good motto to go by - if you can't articulate it clearly then you don't really understand it clearly.

thanks,

Clearmountain

You should def. retake the GMAT as you will not stand out with this score. Many students will have a similar or better score so you will have to show that you are able to study harder. For example you can take a risk-free GMAT course with a score improvement guarantee. Then you have nothing to lose but a lot to win.

Take a course with a score improvement guarantee, study hard and retake the test. If you will not improve you will get your money back and thus have nothing to lose.

I would love to create a free and non binding individual study plan for you if you are interested!
