Attempt GMAT official Guide Book Multiple Books

Hi All

I need advice from the experts.

I am attempting the GMAT official Guide book. Is it ok to attempt the book multiple times say about 2-3 times? Will that help in increasing my overall score?

Also, please let me know how much time one needs to spend on the weekends for the study. I spend about 2-3 hours during the weekdays. My focus is lost during the weekends. Let me know.

Does it make sense to study for 8 hours per day for about 2 months to improve my score? Its just that I want to write the exam fast and get over it

Is it ok to attempt the book multiple times? Sure. Nothing wrong with it.
Will it help increase your overall score? I doubt it. Doing the same questions again and again won't help much. You need to understand the concepts of the questions you are unable to solve and then try different questions based on that concept. Redoing the same questions serves little purpose. You can perhaps redo it once after a few days to ensure that you do understand it properly now.

Time you need to spend over the weekend - very subjective question. Depends on what works for you. Many people preparing seriously for GMAT with a full time job try to put in 2-3 hrs every weekday and 6-7 hrs each day over the weekend. Though how much time you invest has little relevance. How you use that time productively is more important.

Again 8 hrs a day for 2 months doesn't guarantee a good score. It's fine if you want to get done with it soon but you must understand that you will have to take interest in the topics tested. You can't just skim them, do a 100 question on each and expect a great result. You need to know exactly what is tested and where you stand. Then you need to focus your efforts on topics that give you problem. You should also take a mock CAT every 10-15 days to evaluate yourself and learn how to manage time during the actual exam.

With limited the no of resource that you have around such as OGs and online test banks, how do you ensure you improve your score. The beauty of the exam is that you dont have questions that are alike repeating.

Actually the resources are not limited. In addition to the OGs, you have resources of various test prep companies at your disposal. But you don't actually need to use many resources to get a high score. As I said before, focus on your concepts, which by the way, are not covered in OGs. OG only gives you practice problems and most of them are low to mid level problems. You cannot expect to hit a high score by just focusing on the OG until and unless you are already great at the Quant and Verbal tested. If you understand the basics well, it wouldn't matter even if you have never seen the question before. At the end of the day, the exam tests the same few things over and over again in different formats.
