Hi Tom,

OG 13 should be good if can dedicate time. You can try out the GMAT test tools too.

It usually takes 3-4 weeks for the schools to receive the officials GMAT score so plan accordingly. However let me know if you need any further help.

Cheers

Thanks!

I think 680 is going to be my target, thanks for your advice! I received my book yesterday, so I'll do the best I can to finish it quickly. After that I can practice questions and get familiar with taking the test.

What do you think of my schedule of taking the GMAT? Do you think it's necessary to plan a retake just to make sure? And if so, does it really take 20 days before the institution receives my score?

Any advice on which books to use in addition to my current book are welcome ofcourse.

Thanks again.

Hi Tom,

You have a pretty good chance of getting to Master in Management- Mannheim. However the GMAT score will be the decider. Since the GPA is a bit on the lower side you may have a tough competition. But with a good GMAT score (680+), nothing can stop you.

Never go by the results of the mock GMAT scores. In the actual one, the mental pressure would be on the higher side and it might show in your results. Its better to solve maximum number of questions and try taking quick mock tests frequently. However mock GMAT test will help you to familiarize the sections and questions types.

All the best!!!

Hi Tom,

It's a good question and I have had some students from the Netherlands before so know a little about the schools and the language hurdles involved. Starting at 450, with about two months I think a high 600 score is more than reasonable. At that level the main difficulty is learning how to decode the questions which for a English as a 2nd language student extra difficult. It's not so much about the math or the English but about Focus and Precision. Nevertheless, for some good math tutorial videos specific to GMAT check out Khan academy - a very rich resource. For the verbal, nothing beats getting a elementary school grammar book for native users. Even grammar websites geared to highschoolers. The irony of the GMAT is that all the fundamental knowledge comes from Junior High School so do not be embarassed to check out materials geared for them. Sure the test makers have ways of making it ridiculously confusing but as for the fundamental blocks of knowledge - almost all of us already have it.

Thanks,

Clearmountain

I just sent an email to Mannheim Business School where I asked for their experiences with receiving GMAT results. Thanks for your help!

Thank you. Last semester I spend a semester abroad in the United States. I think I improved my English reading/writing a lot during this 6 months abroad. My English wasn't bad before though, almost half of my degree at this stage is taught in English. I get what you're saying though, so I will defenitely use your tips.

Thanks again,
Tom

Indeed, the mental pressures mentioned above are important to take into consideration as you prepare for the test. When you study, you want to make sure your study environment is similar to that of the actual test center. If your test is in the morning, then make sure you are used to doing difficult GMAT questions in the morning.

Remove all text messages and social media when you study. Focus is key both in study and during the exam.

For tips on the psychological aspects of the test, please see: https://www.gmatpill.com/about/studying- ... trategies/

Hey guys,

I'm new at this forum so I'll introduce myself first instead of rushing into my question. My name is Tom, I'm a 23 yo student from the Netherlands and currently finishing my Bachelor in Business Administration.

After I get my degree I would like to start my Master in Management in Mannheim. I pass all the requirements except for the GMAT. Mannheim Business School requires at least a 600 score. I couldn't find any specific requirements for the Essay part and the integrated reasoning section (so if anyone has experience with this according to the requirements of Mannheim Business School, please let me know).

My question is the following:
The admission period is from march 15th till may 31st, I can send them my GMAT score until june 15. As I said, the minimum score is 600 but because I only have a GPA of a little higher than 3 (I'm not sure what my exact GPA is because we work with a different system) I want to score somewhat higher than 610 if you know what I mean. I'm aiming at 670, anything higher would be fine of course.

I did a practice test last weekend without any preparation and scored 450. I didn't use al the available time and rushed true the questions a bit. I started studying today and I was planning my upcoming month(s). I want to make sure I got the 600 at least and if I've somewhat higher than 600 I'm thinking of doing a retake to improve my score. At the official GMAT website I read that it can take up to 20 days before you receive your actual score, does this mean (if I send my results to Mannheim immediately as well) that I've to make sure I take the test arround april 24th (taking into account that I have to do a retake)?

So for example: I'll take my first test at april 22th, the university in Mannheim will receive my score at around may 12th.
I'm allowed to do a retake 31 days after my first test, so this would be around may 23th. (so Mannheim will receive my score before june 15th?

What do you guys think of my chances to pass the GMAT at the first time? My first test results were: Q:25 points (14th percentile) V:27 points (43rd percentile). I'm not a star in Math, but not bad as well. I'm better in verbal questioning though. I really want to do this master degree and I don't want to wait for a year before I can start.

Edit: I'm using Cracking the GMAT 2014 edition (princeton review), is this enough for a 650-670 score? Or should I use something as well?

Thanks in advance.
Tom
