Hi everyone
I am a non-native English speaker with a strong quantitative background - majored in mathematics and statistics. I recently took my first attempt at the GMAT and scored 640 (Q48 V30). As I did better in most of my practise tests, I was very disappointed. Just a little bit of background on my preparation thus far:
Materials Covered:
-Complete
MGMAT Set
-OG12
-OG Quant Review & Verbal Review
-GMAT800
Practise Tests:

1. 710 (Q50,V40)
2. 630 (Q49,V27)
3. 640 (Q48,V29)
4. 640 (Q49,V28)
5. 680 (Q50,V31)
MGMAT1. 650 (Q40,V38)
2. 670 (Q44,V37)
3. 630 (Q41,V35)
GMAT Prep Tests
1. 640 (Q44, V33)
2. 720 (Q48, V41)
After taking the day after the test off to think about what has happened I realised that I have to make sure that my preparation for my second attempt is targeted at improving weaknesses in the different areas. My three focus areas are as follows:
1. Verbal
I would need to improve my accuracy in SC, RC and CR. I am planning to go through the
MGMAT SC guide a couple of times as well work through the PowerScore CR Bible, which I haven’t yet went through. Many gmat takers who struggled with verbal before suggest tons of question practise especially on SC and CR. When working through the OG questions the first time I hit 80-90% accuracy on RC and CR and about 75% on SC. Would it benefit me from working through the OG again. The OG questions seem much easier than those in the Kaplan Tests and the real test?
2. Quant
I would like to move my Quant score up 2 points to at least 50. My initial thoughts were to work through the Club GMAT Math work book and
MGMAT Advanced Quant before doing the Club GMAT tests. I also note documents from Bunuel on topics such Number theory, Factorials and etc. Any other suggestions would be welcomed?
3. Getting all together
Although it didn’t really bother me in my first attempt, I would need to become faster and more fluent with different questions being thrown at me as I progress through the test.
Please share with me your thoughts and advice?
