Should I attempt GMAT AGAIN???

Question

Hey All,

I think I need serious help and expert opinion. I have given GMAT twice now but have failed (as per my expectations each time.

Last year I gave GMAT on 29/08/2013 and got score of 610 (49 Q and 27 V)
This year again i attempted GMAT and got score of 660 ( Q49 and V 32)

I am 28 year old typical Indian engineering graduate from National Institute of technology with solid 6 Years of work experience in Indian Automobile manufacturing company with sale and marketing background. I am also been associated with acclaimed NGO as business development officer for about 2 years now.

I had been getting 700 to 720 scores while preping for GMAT consistently but here I am blank, no thoughts what so ever.

Pls shower me with free flowing advice as to what i should do? Should I again attempt GMAT for above 700 score and seek admission in college of choice or apply with the existing scores

Hi, You have increased your score by 50 points. What got you to 660 from 610 ? You did good on Quant. I myself have blown my first mock and looking to get myself straightened up. :oops:

I'm in no way fit for advising you. But here are my two cents for you. Look for fresh material. I have started going through E-gmat SC material and its awesome. I like it. Also, you can buy MGMAT Grammar book as an additional/optional choice, but definitely not required when you have E-gmat. For CR , what I heard is that Power score is truly a bible. RC , can be mastered by only practicing. If you can get this stuff done. I think you will be on your way to 700 for sure. Keep reading all of the boring articles from websites such as the-economist, natgeo, scientific-american etc. This will help you to tone your vocabulary too. What I did is, I have installed a Google dictionary extension on Google chrome. If I double click and select any word that's new to me, it gives you the definition. Good luck.

Hi,

You have been scoring good in quant, but verbal has been a trouble. If you are confident to get a better score, I would suggest you to retake. However you may start preparing your applications right away so that you do not miss the deadlines. Try practising more questions from the verbal section, and if you get a 700+ score, you would be eligible for most of the B-Schools. You may look at the chances here:  https://goo.gl/RZg44t

Was reading comprehension a challenge for you? Try using a structured approach to reading passages. It's going to be the same approach you use to read things like NatGeo, econ magazines, science articles, social sciences, etc.

The whole point is that reading can have a lot of technical terms. It's useful for business folks to know technicals. But more important on the business side is understanding the reasoning, the logic or argument that is made. And the main idea. Without understanding the main idea and focusing on it, it's easy for business to get sidetracked and lose focus. Just as a business manager focuses on target goals, as a reader you'll need to focus on the main idea. It's a useful resource with a few practice examples to walk you through - from gmatpill. When were you planning to apply to schools?

There are several factors that could have affected your score on exam day. Take a look at the Economist GMAT Tutor's blog post "Why is my real GMAT score lower than my practice exam score?" Factors such as timing or a   environment could have had an effect on your performance.

As the folks in this forum already mentioned, it seems that the area to focus on is your verbal score. There are several chat threads created in this forum that can provide you with tips on improving your verbal score, should you decide to retake the test. If you know which part of the verbal section you can improve on, I can certainly give you tips on how to approach those questions as well.
