I wrote the GMAT back in August this year but I cancelled the score because I didn't do as well as I expected. I would like to try it again in early 2015. I just like to know if the IR Section will be officially weighed in as part of the final GMAT Score. Does anyone know? When I studied for my previous attempt in August 2014, I didn't spend much time on the IR Section, so if I am going in again and IR officially becomes part of the final score, I better haul myself to master it. Just want to know. Thanks.

IR was designed to be a separately scored section of the GMAT, just like the AWA. What is changing with the IR is how the score is used to evaluate you. When IR was brand new, schools didn't know how to treat it, so it really had no impact on your admission and your results didn't matter. Now, it does have an impact on your admission, but you really just need to stay at or above the median score. If you are going into a field like investment banking or consulting, however, you will want to maximize your score because some firms have indicated that they may use the IR for screening applicants.

Thanks KW, so it matters now because when I wrote the GMAT last year. I spoke with a GMAT tutor last year and he said it didn't matter at that time (Sept 2014) as it was still in experimental stage. What I like to know if has GMAC made it official that it's part of the GMAT score (separate section like AWA) for 2015 exams. Have they made the change already? Thanks.
