Hi asheshayushmishra,

First off, a 630/Q47 is a pretty good score (it's just a bit shy of the 80th percentile overall), so it might be enough to get you into your first-choice Business School, especially if you have a strong OVERALL profile. That having been said, many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their studies before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet.

Before I can offer any advice, I'd like to know about how you've studied and your timeline/goals:

1) What materials have you used during your studies?
2) What is your overall score goal?

3) When are you planning to take the GMAT again?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) Do you know which Schools you plan to apply to?

I did around 1month or 40 days of preparation. I had my office, after which I used to study for about 3-4 hours daily.
For preparing for Quant, I used to practice with a timer, aiming at about 60 questions/hr. Last such practice resulted in 60 questions in one hour with abt 6 wrong answers. All of them silly mistakes.
Verbal was relatively more difficult. I had prepared for Verbal for about 15-20 days, out of my complete preparation time.
1- Materials Used- Magoosh, Sentence Correction Nirvana by Education Aisle, OG 2015 Math Review Questions and OG 2015 Verbal Question Bank.
2 - My overall score goal is 720+. Would love to get around the 750 mark.
3 - Planning to take it again on 6th December 2015.
4 - Around Dec end/ Jan begining.
5 - ISB, US state schools - Not completely sure about the schools.
6 - Work Ex - 2yrs

Hi asheshayushmishra,

With a 720+ score goal, you're likely going to have to improve your performance in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. From what you described, it sounds like you've used a 'book-heavy' study approach so far; many Test Takers who study in that way end up getting 'stuck' at a particular scoring level, and that's possible that this is what has happened to you. To make the big improvements that you're looking for, you'll likely need to invest in a GMAT Course of some type and learn/practice some new tactics.

1) How long ago did you take your GMAT?
2) Do you know the exact application deadlines for the Schools that you're considering?

Hi asheshayushmishra,

Based on everything that you've described, I think that you would find the EMPOWERgmat Total Score Booster to be quite helpful. Most of our clients complete that Study Plan in well under 2 months, so the time commitment wouldn't be that bad. We have a variety of free resources on our site (www.empowergmat.com), so you can 'test out' the Course before setting up an account.

If you have any additional questions, then you can feel free to contact me directly.

Hi all,

I recently gave my Gmat and scored 47 in Quant, Ir 6, and 29 in verbal. I gave only 1 month to my prep before I went for my exam,. And I also had my office which left me about 3-4 hrs effective study time in a day. While giving the exam I was pretty confident during the Verbal section, that I was identifying the right issues in SC and was able to find the solutions. As such, was pretty disappointed when my score arrived.

When thinking back now, I was struggling with one of the RC's. Had difficulty with bold faced statements/phrases in the CR part. And now I am not even sure, if what I was thinking in the exam while doing SC was the correct analysis of the problem or not.

Please suggest me how can I improve my verbal score, without compromising on other sections. What sources should I use?

Get your Enhanced score report to understand the sections in which you actually struggled. If your SC score is actually good, you will know that you were on the right track there.
You know that you faced difficulties with a certain passage in RC. Read up more on that and other topics. Also, having difficulty with one question type and one passage will not reduce your verbal score much. The ESR will provide some data on the area in which you are lacking. Your practice tests will give you a good idea too. If you studied only for a month, you probably did not take many/any practice tests. If you haven't taken any, you might want to take a couple to understand why your verbal score is low.

As for the other sections, ensure that you keep practicing. Also, aim to jump up 2 points in Quant as well.

I am awaiting my Enhanced Score Report, so once it is out, I can understand my weaknesses in a much better manner. In the meanwhile, can you suggest me some sources, which can be useful.

Hey asheshayushmishra

The SC section is the easiest verbal section to make improvements on. Once you understand how to think and approach this question type, there are only so many ways you can be tested. Here at GMAT Pill we developed the 10 core frameworks which detail the 10 ways to approach GMAT sentence corrections.

Here is a sample video detailing one of the core frameworks: https://www.gmatpill.com/gmat-practice-t ... stion/2184

For CR, we recommend a visual framework approach to help you understand the complex short passages and how each item relates to each other.

Here is a video describing the visual framework approach: https://www.gmatpill.com/criticalreasoni ... Estate.mp4

To improve RC - you really need visual guidance. Don't read articles about how to improve reading. You improve by actually doing or watching someone else do.

That's why you might find these video walkthroughs helpful: https://www.gmatpill.com/practicequestio ... tions.html

Best of luck on your studies!
