Hi pooja.agarwal,

Based on everything that you've described, there are at least a couple of issues that could be impacting your performance on Test Day:

1) Test Day is a rather specific 'event' - the details are specific and they matter, so you have to train as best as you can for all of them. The more realistic you can make your CATs, the more likely the score results are to be accurate. The more you deviate, the more "inflated" your scores can become - and that's likely what happened here. By skipping sections, taking the CATs at home, and anything else that didn't properly 'match up' with Test Day, you weren't properly training for the FULL GMAT 'experience.' As a result, it's likely that many of your practice CAT scores were a bit 'inflated.'

2) You've used a variety of Verbal practice materials, so there's some question as to how consistent you are with your approach to SC, RC and CR questions. If you don't have a standard series of 'steps' that you go through and/or are in the habit of 'narrowing the answers down to 2 choices and then "guessing"', then you would likely see the types of 'swings' in your Verbal performances that you describe. If you didn't train to spot the common patterns in the Verbal section, you wouldn't necessarily be able to take advantage of them on Test Day.

The good news is that the GMAT is the same consistent, predictable Exam that it's always been, so you could conceivably train for the next 1-2 months and hit your goal score. You'll likely need to learn/practice some new Tactics (and commit to dealing with the Verbal section is a specific way), but your scores show that you have the necessary knowledge to score at a higher level (you just lack the consistency and Tactics).

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
