Hello All,
I wrote GMAT PREP EXAM PACK 1, test 3 and only scored 690 ( Q49, V35). I was surprised of the score since I though I did well in the verbal section. Following is the break up of mistakes in verbal section ( A total of 10 mistakes)-
1) One mistake in the first 18 questions ( Question 7-RC).
2) Two mistakes in the last four questions and the rest 7 mistakes were equally paced.
3) I could sense that questions were getting easier at the end. Especially the last RC passage.
I made 7 mistakes in Quant section and scored Q49. Mistakes were at the middle of the section and I made 2 sets of simultaneous mistakes of 2 questions each.
I was very disappointed with the score as I scored 720 in my last 2 tests ( both GMAT PREP). The last one being 3 weeks old and I put significant effort to improve my verbal score during the past three weeks. My accuracy went up during the practice and I was able to see the nuances in sentence correction questions. I was not able to figure out what went wrong in the exam. So, I decided to give another mock immediately ( GMAT PREP EXAM PACK 2-TEST 5) and scored 740 ( Q 50, V 41). I took this exam after 3 hours I took the last exam.
This time I made 3 mistakes in the first 20 questions in verbal and the rest 6 were evenly paced. I could feel that questions got tougher towards the end.
I still have 20 days for my exam. I don't want to repeat my test 4 performance in the actual exam. I would have been happier if I could figure out what went wrong, but I couldn't analyse the drop, especially when I made only one mistake in the first 18 questions ( 10 in total) in verbal section.
Can someone help me analyse where I went wrong?

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your CAT score results show that you essentially performed the same each time (+/- a few points). Assuming that you took each of these CATs in a realistic and test-like fashion, then your current ability level is likely in the low-700s. At your scoring level, the GMAT becomes really 'sensitive' to little mistakes though - if you make a few too many, then a 700+ score becomes impossible to achieve. In that way, you shouldn't be focused on how 'spread out' your wrong answers are - you should be thinking about WHY you got those questions wrong. If they were 'gettable' questions, and you made some type of small/silly mistake, then THAT is something that you need to keep from happening again.
As an aside, you really should be taking just 1 FULL-LENGTH CAT per week. Taking more than that (and taking 2 CATs in 1 day) is not likely to be beneficial - and you'll just end up 'wasting' CATs.

I agree it is a waste to take two CAT's on the same day. I was in self denial and I wanted to prove to myself that my ability is better than the score that I got in the exam. I thought to myself, if I scored the same in the second exam, I will have to reset my studying because I may have picked up some bad habits/strategies.
I need your advise on study plan for the next twenty days. I am planning to stick to OG and GMATPREP questions by re-doing them again and again. I am somehow not convinced with the questions from the Testprep companies ( for verbal). Is it beneficial to do new set of questions or Re-doing the official questions?
