Hi All -
First off just want to say Gmat Club is the bomb. It's helped me a lot and I hope this community continues to flourish.
I did have a few questions regarding this score. I took the test yesterday and got a 710 (48Q 40V, IR8).
1. The schools I'm applying to have Gmat averages around the 700-710 range. (Cornell, Duke, Darden, Georgetown, Texas, Stern, Chapel Hill) Should I try for a retake? I do think that I can do better. I wasn't feeling my best the day of the test, I had a mental fog going and which dramatically affected my pacing. I practically had to guess blind on the last 5-6 questions on both Quant and Verbal. Its Aug 27 today and the round 1 deadlines for these schools are quickly approaching. (Oct 5-Oct 16) I have started on my apps but have not covered a lot of ground and plenty still remains to be done. Is it worth retaking the test to try for a 730-750? I know applications are looked at holistically and I am probably being shortsighted with my line of questioning, but still it would help me to get some outside perspective on this.
Side Note: My GPA is within +- .1 point of the averages for all these schools which is not overly concerning but it is on a slight downward trend. This makes me want to retake to try for a slightly higher score in an effort to balance out the application a bit more. Any thoughts whether I should go for it? Again I know it's a tough call considering how little information I am giving you, but any feedback would be amazing.
2. Also, I noticed that others who had same subsection breakdowns as I received a higher overall score (720 instead of a 710) How does that work? I realize that your percentiles might change depending on how others are performing, but how can two people which same sub scores get different overall scores. It did not make sense to me, so I thought to ask you guys.
I am considering doing a debrief of my prep strategy since every new perspective usually ends up adding something to the equation. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks very much for reading and hope you kick ass on your tests.
Cheers
