GMAT score 650

Question

Hi experts,

I gave my GMAT exam 2 weeks back and scored a 650(49q 28v).

I had a poor time management in verbal section as I spent almost 30 mins on the first 11 12 questions, I was panicked and couldn't take off the timer off my head. I want to practice the time management and score a 700+ in the re-take which I am planning to take in December. Can you please help me on the strategy front.

Hi,

I would suggest you to order the ESR. It is really helpful. And analyze where you stand on each section in Verbal. And then plan to target those areas accordingly so that you can improve.

The strategy would be simple. Find out where you made the mistake. If it time management, ESR would help which question type you spent more time and practice those question type.

And also analyze why correct answer is correct and wrong ones are wrong. Study only from OG for verbal. For Quant- Spend time on GMATClub tests. It might help you stay in Q49 range or increase to Q50.

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your next Official Test Date?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Rich,

I have studied consistently for about 2.5 months.
I have used OG17, Kaplan800 (for quant); OG17,OG verbal, Manhattan CR and RC, e-gmat. I used gmatclub to do 700 level questions for both quant and verbal.
I gave 3 veritas prep cats, 1 Manhattan and 2 gmatprep.
VERITAS
Exam 1- 690 (50q,35v)
Exam 2 - 650 (49q,30v)
Exam 3 - 650 (49q,30v)
Gave the last 2 veritas exams the day before exam back to back 
Gmatprep
Gmatprep 1 - 680 (50q,32v)
Gmatprep 2 - 720(50q,38v) ( quant was easy and 3 known questions in verbal)
Manhattan
Cat 1 - 630 (40q,36v) ( felt quant a lot tougher)
I haven't booked the date yet, based on the analysis and time needed I would probably take in the last week of December.
Aiming to apply for round 2 should be Jan 15.
Schools planned - ISB, NUS, NTU

As suggested by Gnpth, order ESR soon.
For time management solve chunks of questions in limited time.
Solve atleast 3-4 RC passages every day.

Hi jyothi123,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, most of your CAT score results show that you essentially performed the same each time (about 670 +/- a few points; we have to ignore the 720/V38 - since you saw 'repeat' questions). The 'panic' that you felt during the Verbal section means that you didn't feel properly prepared for that section. Thankfully, the Verbal section of the GMAT is as consistent and predictable as the Quant section is, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Many Test Takers who use a 'book heavy' study approach end up getting 'stuck' at a particular score level; since your studies were so book-heavy, it's likely that this happened to you too. This is meant to say that you'll likely end up needing to invest in some new, non-book resources to hit your score goal.
