I am a B.Tech. from IIT-Patna. I am scoring very good in Quant but Verbal Score is not rising. In all Mocks, I am not able to score beyond 32. Please help.

What is your current verbal score and what is your target score? When are you planning to take GMAT?

My suggestion is to focus on CR and SC, as those are the 2 easiest sub-sections to improve in a short amount of time.

Hi HannibalLecter,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
Sir I started studying for GMAT Last year in October. I have gone through mostly free material. My goal is to atleast reach 40 in verbal.

Mostly my RC is not good. I end up getting 80% incorrect answers.

If you're getting 80% of RCs wrong, then that suggests a problem with English comprehension in general, which is going to be hard to fix in a short amount of time.

Allow me to suggest an alternative, aggressive and admittedly risky strategy. If you are struggling mightily on RC anyway, then just guess randomly on those questions / quickly pick an aggressive guess ("concede" them), and spend all of your remaining time on SC and CR, which are easier question types to master for non-native English speakers.

HannibalLecter - First let’s make sure that just RC is the core issue. Hence, can you list your ability scores in SC, CR, and RC. Remember, on an adaptive test average ability in SC and CR can go hand in hand with good accuracy in these sections.

Second – how do you approach RC today. What kind of processing do you do when you read a passage. Do you make any notes, modulate your reading speed when you see certain keywords etc? Do you create paragraph summaries?

Take a look at this article to learn how to approach Main Point Questions:

No strategy in RC in general. I paraphrase each paragraph. Even notice the keywords. But that's it. No particular strategy.
